Tangeriet
A seaweed pop-up restaurant by Lofoten Seaweed
Tangeriet - Norway’s first Seaweed Restaurant
In the cold arctic waters of Northern Norway grows an untapped potential. The seaweed harvesting company Lofoten Seaweed has made it their mission to bring algae back to the nordic diet.
With a splash of madness and a whole lot of ambition, they set out to create a restaurant that would feature seaweed in every dish. Together with super chef Jacek Kukielka “Tangeriet” was born.
The visual identity needed to align with Lofoten Seaweed’s established colours and expression, while maintaining a separate identity. We kept the logo, menus and collateral simple to focus as much attention as possible to the menu itself.
Painting the seaweed mural
We decided to adorn the facade of the restaurant with something that would be visible to the road. The restaurant also serves as a shop and cafe in the daytime.
I sketched out this winged kelp leaf going diagonally across the wall, and set to work.
A week of priming, painting and varnishing ensued. The finished teal colorued piece of seaweed still decorates this unique restaurant.
Tourists driving by, locals and restaurant visitors often stop to take photos of the wall. That’s something that never fails to bring a smile to my face.
